India's AI Creative Revolution
There's an underground movement happening in India. Young creators — 18 to 28 — are building careers as AI filmmakers for the first time. They don't have Hollywood budgets. They don't have Silicon Valley gatekeepers. They have imagination and a tank of fuel.
The problem with AI tools today
Every AI tool is built by engineers who've never made anything with their hands. Midjourney makes images. Runway makes video clips. ChatGPT writes text. But none of them make films. To make a film with AI today, you need five subscriptions, three APIs, and a computer science degree to wire them together.
And they're all priced in USD. $20/month for ChatGPT. $10-60/month for Midjourney. $15-95/month for Runway. For a filmmaker in Mumbai who makes one music video every three months, that's $45-175/month in subscriptions — for tools that don't even work together.
India's answer isn't another LLM
Japan has KARAKURI VL2 and Rakuten AI. China has Qwen, DeepSeek, GLM, MiniMax, and Kimi. The US has GPT, Claude, and Gemini. Every region is building its own brain.
India's answer is the harness.
I call it Artificial Creative Intelligency (ACI) — the agentic layer that routes the right model to the right creative task, gives every model image and video output capabilities, and lets you do real creative work in one place. Not a bigger brain. The harness that makes every brain actually useful.
Why a filmmaker built it
I directed my first music video in 2014. Since then I've directed for Talwiinder, Emiway Bantai, Vishal Mishra, and dozens of independent artists. I know what it costs to turn an idea into something watchable. I know the 3 AM edit bays, the crew calls, the budget fights.
When I started experimenting with AI, I realized the tools were amazing but the workflow was broken. So I spent a year and a half building the tool I wished existed. Twin Studio — a desktop AI agent for macOS that thinks, sees, generates images and video, controls your Mac, and posts to social media. One app. Every model. Every modality. One tank of fuel.
Other agents are built by engineers. Twin was built by the crew. Every UX decision is filmmaker-first. That's why it works — because the person who built it was the person who needed it.
The underground movement
There's a community of young Indian creators — filmmakers, music video directors, independent artists — who are building careers with AI for the first time. They're making music videos, ad films, short films, social content — without cameras, without crew, without experience.
They're united by two things: INR pay-per-use pricing (no subscription walls) and the belief that storytelling shouldn't require a Hollywood budget. This is the underground movement. Of the people, by the people, for the people.
The next Pixar could be built in Mumbai
Pixar was built because a group of people believed that technology could democratize animation. They were right. But they built it in Silicon Valley, priced it in USD, and gated it behind enterprise budgets.
India's creative revolution is different. It's not a studio. It's a movement. It's thousands of young creators with Twin Studio on their Mac, a tank of fuel, and a story to tell. No gatekeepers. No subscriptions. No barriers.
The next Pixar could be built in Mumbai. I genuinely believe that. Not because Mumbai has better technology — but because Mumbai has hungrier storytellers. And now they have the tools.
